Scientific Quotes / Scientific Quotations

The greatest conflicts in science involve commonly observed phenomena affecting the ordinary lives of people.

Resolving the greatest conflicts in science requires recognizing the simple, and accepting the obvious.

Nothing is so simple that it cannot be misunderstood. (Author = Freeman Teague)

The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking. (Author = Albert Einstein)

I reject that we already know every "easy" essential scientific truth. An infinite number of fundamental discoveries are in the queue, just waiting for curious-minded persons with courage, relentlessness, and available platforms to pick them out and embarrass us all with the ridiculously obvious nature of each.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. (Author = Arthur Schopenhauer)

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. (Author = Max Planck)

I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives. (Author = Tolstoy)

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. (Author = Marcus Aurelius)

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity. (Author = Louis Pasteur)

We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself. (Author = Lloyd Alexander)

Immortality is harshly selective.

Being first is being immortal.

The only thing standing between me and immortality is time.

Pursing immortality is rational, only if you believe humankind will be around over a million years from now.

Pursuing immortality can take years off your life.

Before you do it, remember that death and immortality are both defined by time and place.

If I lived forever, I could be immortal.

"Objectivity" is achieved by neither solicited love nor spurned hatred, but rather by a pristine application of principle or apathy.

"Objectivity" is not exposing the agenda of others while failing to reveal your own.

"Balance" is not countering the opinions of those who know with those who don't know.

"Balance" is not countering truth with lies.

If you are balanced and objective, no one will remember your name.

The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest. (Author = George Washington)

Disclosure without accuracy and context is opacity, not transparency.

Demanding that benefits received be transparent, while allowing benefits rejected to remain invisible does not represent full disclosure. Disclosing the interests of the accused, while hiding the interests of the accuser does not represent full disclosure. Both are half disclosures. A clock that runs 1/2 speed is accurate less of the time than a clock that doesn't run at all.

Scientific organizations are inherently political, with leaders often having conflicting opinions, opposing agendas, and challenging personalities. So how best to deal with them? Well, if you've ever raised teenagers, then you have a good start.

If you don't believe you can learn anything from others, then you won't.

All of us have the potential to be a genius at something - a fact brought home when your plumbing goes bad.

Anyone can write a complicated paper only a genius can understand. It takes genius to write a complicated paper anyone can understand.

It takes a lot of skill and preparation to effectively say nothing.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe. (Author = Albert Einstein)

Infinity, the Universe, and Existence are easy to understand once you realize: (1) nothing is big or small, only bigger or smaller; (2) matter and energy are just two points on the same curve; and (3) time is nothing more than a measuring parameter of speed, except when it defines religion.

Faith emerges upon the realization that both infinity and finity do not consistently apply to the human experience. Limitlessness cannot be counted. If limits exist, then what is beyond the wall? It is better to trust God has it all sorted out.

If the denominator is infinity, then mathematically, everything is about the same size, with the only difference being perspective.

I am not an everything; I am not a nothing; but I am a thing.

I am not an everybody; I am not a nobody; but I am a somebody.

Whether you are the plan, or part of the plan, depends on perspective.

People will remain suspect of what you know until you find that sentinel moment to answer a question with: "I don't know."

For them to be sure you know, assure them you don't know.

As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know. (Author = Donald Rumsfeld)

Knowing what you don't know is as imporant as knowing what you know.

If you act with contempt for the time of others, then you must be a doctor, incompetent, or someone really important.

No statistical model is correct; but some are useful. (Author = George Box)

Statistical analyses are never accurate; they just vary in the degree of inaccuracy.

Statistical analysis is properly applied when assessing how a full glass varies from an empty glass, and improperly applied when smashing the glass and examining the contents grain by grain, drop by drop to determine the practical significance of glass fullness.

Facts are stubborn, but statistics more pliable. (Author = Mark Twain)

In a multicenter double-blind trial, the quality of an individual research site may not be able to affect the ultimate direction of study outcome; but it can affect the variance, and thus affect the significance of results.

The problem with publicly thanking individuals for your success is that you will inevitably offend those you excluded more than ingratiate those you included.

The most expensive study you can conduct is a flawed trial.

Small Business Quotes / Small Business Quotations:

Entrepreneurs stay up all night, excited about other people's money they invested, in hopes of a quick payoff, so they can forever retire in a tropical villa. Small business owners stay up at night, worried about their own money they risked, in hopes of a steady return, so they can forever pay taxes to the government.

A penney and a $1000 bill are found lying on the ground. Entrepreneurs won't waste their time picking up either one. A small business person will bank the penney, and return the $1000 bill to its owner because it is the right thing to do, and because it may be a good investment in a future relationship.

If you run a small business, and initiate a lawsuit more than once a decade, then you are either very unlucky, or way too enamored with the legal system.

When told by big business to do something dubious that makes you feel uncomfortable, then learn the language of their domain. If you tell them you can't do it because of ethics, security, feasibility, cost, etc., then big business personnel will think you are just being an unreasonable jerk. However, if you attribute your inability to comply on your "institution's policies", even if you just made them up, then they will be more likely work with you as a fellow victim of an immovable bureaucracy.

Any small business correspondence should meet the following criteria: (1) The wording would not change if you sent it tomorrow; (2) You wouldn't mind having it published in a newspaper; and (3) It represents an definitive attempt to get something done in black and white, rather than a chance to use colorful language to illustrative the extreme rainbow ranges of the spoken word.

If you are a successful artist, author, actor, musician, or professional athlete in the first decades of life, then you are worthy of media admiration and entitled to whatever people are willing to pay you. If you are a successful small business person who sacrificed and invested for decades, then you are worthy of media ridicule and a greedy bastard.

"Income must exceed expenses" and "business realities" are bogus as well. The only thing standing in the way of you getting more of what you want is your jerk of a boss who is either too lazy or too selfish to simply pick the increased wages and benefits you deserve off the ever fruitful limbs of the corporate money tree.

If you are imposed upon by your employer to help make the business successful, then it is OK to demean and ignore your boss. The profitability of the company is not your problem. Yes, if the business fails, the owner may experience devastating losses of life-long investments in money and career. But for you and your coworkers, you simply find new jobs.

Those whose first and only concerns are their benefits and pay when they start employment are immature and short-sighted. Those whose contractual focus is work satisfaction, potential for growth, reward for performance, and what happens when their employment ends are those who wisely believe tomorrow's happiness is more valuable than today's paycheck.

As your therapist, I am confident your unhappiness is not due to your spouse, family, life circumstance or anything to do with you. The problem is your work. So if you just quit your current job, all your anxiety should melt away in a rainbow stream of ectasy. If it doesn't, then the problem is your new job.

Never terminate an employee to satisfy another employee. The employee who covertly savages a colleague is often the same one most openly stunned and outraged when the co-worker is fired, and likely the one who bakes the sympathy going-away cake

Entitlement rarely loses its nature. Upon falling from celestial pedestals, the cries of the arrogant are often not tears of remorse for past deeds or regrets for prior condescension, but instead, childish whinings from the painful impact with the real world.

True and false claims of sexually inappropriate behavior are equally egregious, with each being more about power and control than about sex.

A cornerstone of the US judicial system is the axiom derived from English jurist William Blackstone: "Better that 10 guilty men go free than to convict a single innocent man." Exceptions to this rule are false accusations of inappropriate behavior against your staff, wherein: "Better that 10 innocent men be convicted than to let a single guilty man go free." Need proof? How many companies have "Sexual and Racial Discrimination Policies and Procedures" that protect the rights of the wrongfully accused?

No matter how progressive you are as a man, and no matter how progressive the workplace you create for women, if you stay in business long enough, you will encounter a woman manager who believes and acts on the assumption that all your men employees are guilty predators. Its just that some men haven't been caught, while others are simply waiting in the queue to commit the predestined, inevitable, insensitive, sexually inappropriate act.

In this new millennium, "inappropriate" behavior in the workplace occurs whenever an accuser says it occurs, and when frivolous, demeans and devalues truly inappropriate workplace conduct.

If a woman dresses and acts in a provocative way, and a man is successfully provoked into commenting in a predictable way, then he is at fault, should apologize, be fired, and if feasible, brought up on charges.

If a woman employee justifies acts detrimental to your business as due to women being emotional, then men in management should be open-minded in considering valid gender differences in thought and approach. If a man employee attributes a woman colleague's acts detrimental to your business as being due to women being emotional, then he is at fault, should apologize, be fired, and if feasible, brought up on charges.

I reject those who commit a blatant act of wrongdoing against my staff or business, and then claim it never happened, or dismiss it as simply a "misunderstanding." Those who commit blatantly wrongful acts should first acknowledge the facts, and then respect me enough to at least lie about the circumstances.

If you routinely miss committee meetings and are unwilling to do any of the work, then you should quit. Remarkably, this principle still applies even if your only contribution to the committee is berating others members about how wrong they are.

Don't chase rabbits; you'll just get stuck in the thicket.

I am so glad my misfortune has proven to be to your advantage.

Most people understand the concept: "He who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones at others." The confusion arises when people are oblivious as to where they live.

If you always perceive yourself to be a victim, then you will always be what you perceive.

It isn't really a case of "he said, she said" if she's the only one talking.

Those who throw others under the bus should never be allowed to drive the bus.

You know you have achieved success when you are entitled to humiliate colleagues in public, rip colleagues in emails for no justifiable reason, and generally treat them as you would your employees or children.

The only thing worse than having to pay taxes, is not having to pay taxes. (Author = Unknown)

The most fundamental decisions are best not decided, but instead acted upon guided by principle.

If you always act on principle, then life is never a test.

In the workplace, the amount of paperwork is directly proportional to the number of paperless devices.

Two options to improve airplane safety: Plan A: Disallow checked-in and carry-on luggage; deny the in-flight use of all electronics; require passengers to pass through body scanners and certify the detailed accuracy of their body parts; force each passengers to disrobe and undergo thorough oral and vaginal/prostate exams as well as colonoscopy; and then bind each unclothed passenger to a crucifix from take-off to landing to prevent them from moving about the cabin, putting anything on their lap, or going to the bathroom. Plan B: Don't let known terrorists bring explosives on the plane.

With true capitalism, the more you use a product, the more your business is valued by the company providing the product. The travel industry is unique in that no matter how often you travel, and no matter how many precautions you take, an airline, a hotel, or a meetings person will ultimately find some way to punish you for using their services.

During my travels, the wonderment of unexpected encounters often make me feel like I never left the farm - and I don't live on a farm.

Once committing to a project, being "too busy" is a rational excuse only for those under the self-centered delusion that nobody else has anything to do.

If I didn't have so much to do, then I could get a lot more done.

If you are not "able" to do your job, and someone else wants to do it, then let them, or just do your job.

You are monkeying around with too many things when you can't find your glasses, but they are on your face; try to turn off the radio, but it isn't on; and want others to feel appreciated, but never find time to tell them.

Don't condemn incompetence; incompetent people make competent people successful.

A bout of ill-health is God's reminder to appreciate the truly important things in life - such as staying caught up at work.

We all succeed, only if we all succeed.

Self pity is the drain to nowhere.

Don't just throw dollars at fires; it fuels the flame and your money goes up in smoke.

One business strategy is to let things ride on the chance you will be long gone before the game is over. Another strategy is to strive to be better today than yesterday, and better tomorrow than today. The first strategy is an easy roll of the dice with the objective of cashing out. The second is hard work and sacrifice with the objective of eventual return on an investment. The former is playing at business; the latter is running a business. Your choice reflects who and what you are.

Common sense is not that common. (Author = Voltaire)

Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen. (Author = Albert Einstein)

The first step towards happiness is asking the simple question: "What do I want?" The second step is to ensure pride and ego do not keep you from completing the first step.

When life offers you lemonade, don't get stuck with only the rinds.

Too much pride + not enough principle = failure. The solution is knowing the difference between the two.

During training, your work is preparing for your career. As an employee, your work defines your work. Once an employer, you may find your career is spent preparing for work.

When others are trying to snow you, relentlessly asking for the cold, hard facts wipes away the word blizzard that otherwise blurs your vision.

If you wonder why "somebody" doesn't do something about all the negativity in the workplace, and you are the boss, then a neat trick is look into the mirror until the "somebody" magically appears.

If you assume all business responsibilities on your own, then your business will be closed within a year. If you defer all business responsibilities to others, then your business will be closed within a year.

If the repeated advice of your consultant is that you need other consultants, then you need another consultant.

Two of the largest business liabilities are obstinance and arrogance.

The second biggest challenge in business is to know when to invest in a project with a high potential for success. The first biggest challenge in business is to know when to divest in a project with a high potential for failure.

Timeliness will help you generate business from two important groups: those who are always timely, and those who are already behind.

If you want something done, give it to a busy person. (Author = Unkown)

Running a business without paranoia is just crazy.

Cautious expansion while nurturing diversification enhances survival during natural business life cycles. Reckless and unsustainable growth risks a wasteful demise. You must always "feed the beast."

While somewhat treatable, "documentopenia" (lack of adequate documentation) is otherwise incurable.

Nothing disrupts the free flow of traffic quite like a tragedy to a fellow motorist, a dysfunctional traffic signal, a visible police car, a flat tire, and an oblivious driver lagging in the passing lane.

Regarding life, anyone who says: "I wouldn't change a thing" is either delusional, or never had a life.

Competitors are those who, upon doing the very best they have ever done, are convinced this is their new average.

A competitor is someone who believes balance in life is a strategic disadvantage.

Neither underestimate, nor overestimate your opponents. You don't know all they know; they don't know all you know.

Process is like potassium to the heart of your business. Not enough results in dangerous asynchronous, chaotic rhythms; too much stops everything and causes corporate rigor mortis.

Adding another layer of process in response to every problem turns a single page into a voluminous encyclopedic compendium; nobody reads voluminous encyclopedic compendiums.

You have reached a critical point of "branding" when less of your time is spent looking for work, and more of your time is spent on work that finds you.

Once you have reached your lofty status, it is hypocrisy to then criticize others for taking your same path, and shamelessness to then advocate dismantling your old bridges.

First, make them want something like what you are selling. Second, make them believe no one else has anything like what you are selling.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. Teach a man to create an artificial shortage of fish and he will eat steak. (Author = Jay Leno)

"We're a conservative company" is often the mantra of mindless drones sent out to explain the radical grab for corporate message control, and the liberal pursuit of other self-serving business interests.

O'Sullivan's First Law: All organizations that are not actually right wing will over time become left wing.

Making assumptions based upon political correctness makes for misguided staffing considerations. Any accurate assessment of the lack of certain groups to advance should include whether members of the group want to advance. For example, when women decline management positions for reasons of family or preference, this is not a sign of societal oppression, nor is it a display of irrational gender weakness. Rather, it is an expression of rational choice.

If you are unwilling to step on the first rung of the Corporate ladder, then it is unreasonable for you to complain about your inability to move upward and break the glass ceiling.

Most women say they would rather work for a man.

While unconscionable when it occurs, many women have the extraordinary ability to endure inappropriate comments and unprofessional conduct in the workplace - that is - until someone criticizes their shoes.

If during the lunch break, men spoke the same as women, they would be sued into oblivion.

It is sometimes understandable to think a woman employee should "man up." It is rarely wise to tell her.

The times to be most cautious with a reporter are when the cameras start or stop, when you are asked to comment on and off the record, or when the topic pertains to the past, present, or future.

Assuming you work harder than anybody else is likely to be as accurate as assuming you have more problems than anybody else.

Getting the facts often reveals conspiracies to be acts of indifference. It is not that they reject you because you are a big somebody who must be stopped. Rather, it is more likely they perceive you to be a big nothin', so they just don't care.

If everything goes against you, then maybe you need a different direction. If everything goes your way, then maybe you are not as successful as you could be.

Once the destination is set, the only decision is the best way to get there.

To maximize business expansion success: (1) growth should be in an area for which you have experience; (2) assessment of success should be through proven metrics; (3) the commitment towards carefully selecting quality employees should be no less of a long-term investment than the buildings and equipment; and (4) contingencies should ensure that if the expansion fails, it will not jeopardize the core business.

Without responsibility, there can be no accountability. (Author = Unknown)

You are never wanted more than when someone else wants you . . . or when you go to the bathroom.

Success is often the only difference between a quirky genius, and a deviant jerk.

The phrase: “If you didn't document it, it didn't happen” used to convey the need for documentation to avoid credible claims of denial.  It now conveys the need to avoid documentation to allow credible claims of denial.  Particularly regarding matters of potential liability, the squishy, unverifiable “call me” is preferred over the solid, evidentiary written correspondence.  Legal counsel used to recommend everyone document everything; now they recommend no one document anything.   Verifiability is “out”; deniability is “in”.

I am entirely too busy to get behind.

When old ideas fail, management may proclaim "nothing is off the table." They may encourage you to propose bold new ideas, and "think outside the box." Do not be fooled by this cathartic, yet vacuous validation of supposed open-mindedness towards novel approaches. Because despite all their words, leadership will ultimately direct you to "just get it done" by, at best, allowing you to tweak the same old ideas by working on the same old table within the same old box.

Its OK to reject new ideas - just don't waste other people's time by soliciting them.

Congratulations! After careful consideration of your qualifications, experience, and past success, we have selected you to assist us with this project. We feel the best next step is for us to micromanage what you do, and how you do it.

Each of you has an established record of success with similar projects. Now that we independently decided upon a development plan without your input, we are disappointed you are not meeting your goals. To help resolve your problems, we believe the best solution is to berate your poor performance, and insist you do better.

Although we did not take your advice, we thank you so much for your expert opinion, and continue to value your input. Now that things are not proceeding as anticipated (just as you predicted), we are again seeking your recommendations. Due to the important nature of this project, we are now willing to consider any proposal to move this project forward - as long as it does not alter what we have done, only affects you, and adheres to our original plan. Thank you again for all your help, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Those with scars have the most intimate knowledge of healing; those who avoided scars never needed healing.

If you want to get a project approved by management, convene a panel of experts who are well-aware they are getting paid for their opinions. In a follow-up meeting, re-invite only those experts who favored your project. Repeat this process until you can truthfully tell management that a group of experts unanimously and enthusiastically supported further development of your project.

Management, time scheduling, and you:

  • t = - 12 months: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 6 months. This gives you more than enough time to complete your preparation to start work immediately as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 6 months: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 3 months. The unavoidable delay was due to unanticipated vacations, holidays, staffing turn-over, and weekends (who works on weekends?). However, this still gives you plenty of time to start as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 3 months: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 8 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to budgeting and marketing issues. However, this still gives you time to start as scheduled. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = - 4 weeks: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 4 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to "legal" and regulatory issues. This means you will need to rush your preparations so that you can start as soon as possible upon getting the "go-ahead" from management. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

  • t = 0 weeks: Management plans to get everything completed and submitted to you within the next 2 weeks. The unavoidable delay was due to "supplier" problems. While regrettable you are starting out behind, nothing can be done about that now. It is not productive to dwell on the past; everyone needs to be focused on the future. The bottom-line is that middle management is being pressured by upper management to get this done, and you need to complete your tasks sooner than originally scheduled. Further delays on your part are not acceptable. This is critically important because the high priority and unique time lines of this project.

During down economic cycles, balancing the budget requires a business to re-evaluate priorities and improve efficiency through eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. This enhances business services and reward when economic cycles improve. When the government fails to balance its budget during times of deficit, it deprives the People a re-examination of priorities, improved efficiency, and fairness. Most of all, it disenfranchises the People by denying them better governance now, and even better government services and benefits when tax revenues recover.

Balancing a budget protects the future. It also protects the past legacy and current pride of an individual, a family, a business, a goverment, a city, a state, a country and a people.

When government screws up, it rarely implements measures solely meant to correct its own errors. "Reform" usually includes punishing citizens. Because by inflicting pain, the people are made to feel the government is doing something.

One of the quickest ways to improve governance is to limit all discretionary government spending to a set percent of the yearly budget surplus.

A measurement of your level of engagement is the number of times you are suddenly aroused from sleep, to leave yourself urgent notes, about immediate issues, that should have been resolved long ago, while you were awake.

Major efficiency consulting firms charge as much as $500,000. I charge $5.00. Even without knowing anything about your big business, I can confidently advise that whatever problems exist, they are not the fault of management. Instead: (1) you need to change your logo and website; (2) you need to downsize and redistrict your personnel; and (3) you need to restructure your business model. Finally, if most things are done "in house," then you need to outsource. If most things are outsourced, then you need to do them "in house." I just saved you $499.995.

Always thank those who you pay to fix problems; just be sure that the problems are fixed before you thank them.

If its access is so important as to require security, then establishing security precautions so onerous that it can't be accessed sort of misses the point.

Needlessly onerous processes are a form of entrapment. Bureaucratic drones who demand pointless busy work share in the guilt when otherwise righteous individuals become incentivized to "bend" the rules, which in turn, makes them more susceptible to breaking the rules.

We are truly sorry that it took so long to get this to you. But due to tight time lines, your part is due yesterday. Thank you for your understanding.

Last Tuesday at 1 PM ET was the absolute "datalock" deadline wherein no further changes or corrections whatsoever were permitted, because after this time and date, no possibility existed for anyone to make any future edits. We appreciate that you and your staff put everything else aside to meet our aggressive timelines. However, over the past few weeks, we now find additional edits are necessary. We truly apologize for this inconvenience and ask that you again put everything else aside to answer our additional queries, and meet our newest absolute "datalock" deadline wherein no further changes are permitted. Thank you for your patience.

This e-mail is in follow-up to the e-mail request sent to you at 7 AM this morning. It is now 9 AM. Although we did not call, nor gave you prior warning, this matter is of critical urgency. Please let us know when we can anticipate a response. Thank you in advance for your timely attention to this important matter.

You cannot be "pro-job" if you are anti-business.

An anti-business mentality is devastating to the homeless.

Resistance to change is easiest, safest, and largely insulates you from blame from the inevitable decay that precedes the predictable demise. Pursuit of change is hard work, risky, and potentially costly from the inevitable screw-ups that predictably occur during growth and evolution. The choice is an inevitable death or a challenging life.

Self control is not losing it when someone forgives you for something you didn't do.

If your prices are too high, and your quality is poor, then you will lose business and income. One response is to raise your prices even more, in hopes that most of your bills are received by lower level employees who don't care about your high prices or poor quality.

Assumptions by the press regarding the state of the nation is dependent of the political party in power. If Republicans are in power, then the nation is militarily strong, so safe that security measures are excessive, and businesses are doing better than they should. If Democrats are in power, then homelessness, environmental concerns, and the human tragedy of war, unemployment, and poverty no longer exist.

Any activist organization compelled to claim it is nonpartisan, is partisan.

As a mid-level administrator for big business, you likely have dependent small businesses who do not charge by the hour. If you want to implement a new mandatory website or computer system, then it is not necessary, nor is it cost effective to expend your resources to ensure the system works before implementation. It is best testing to require your vendors to immediately begin using your new systems - ready or not. In this way, you benefit from having your vendors expend their resources (not yours) to test your systems. Most of all, upper management can be re-assured that your new business systems were implemented in a timely manner, and are now officially "online."

Upper mangement's timelines puts pressure on you to be more efficient. To avoid being held to the same standards you expect of your vendors, one option is to demand your vendors complete their tasks within an unreasonable amount of time after you finally get things to them. If you are already doing this, then another option is to issue documented mandates, demanding your vendors complete their tasks before you get things to them. While logistically impossible for them to comply, using this approach, the record will ultimately show it was your vendors who failed to complete their tasks within the desired time period.

If you are big business, tell your small business vendors of your stellar commitment to privacy. Then insist your vendors sign an agreement that you can share their corporate records, birth dates, social security numbers, passport numbers, and dental records with anyone of your choosing, without their consent, and entirely at your discretion.

In order to save me time, please call my assistant so that you can schedule time to meet with me, about a project that benefits me, at a time convenient for me. Thanks!

Thank you for taking your time to call my assistant to rearrange your schedule at my request, so you could meet with me, at a time I requested, about a project that benefits me. Unfortunately, I cannot meet at the time I said I was available and at the time I scheduled. Please call my assistant back to schedule another time to meet with me, at a time more convenient for me. Thank you again for your understanding of my busy schedule, and I look forward to me speaking with you.

Unfortunately, something more important for us has arisen, and we are no longer able to meet with you at the scheduled time and place we chose. We apologize for the inconvenience.
